The day slips slowly towards evening.
Beyond the arches, towards the evening, the alley holds on to the last bluish glints of autumn.
Under the old beams of the Loglia, though, the light is warmer.

A small brazier glows red among stones worn by centuries of footsteps.
The chestnuts crackle softly.
Their heady scent rises towards the ceiling and mingles with the smell of old plaster, seasoned wood and history.
No one is in a hurry.
Someone is waiting for a warm paper cone.
Someone is telling a memory.
A child watches the embers with curiosity, holding a hand bigger than his own.
Higher up, silent as it has always been, the old fresco watches over our passing, every day.
It has seen generations go by.
It has listened to departures and returns echoing in the evening and in the first hours of dawn.
It has kept safe meetings, promises and farewells.
And this evening it watches once more the life that flows beneath its arches.
Because the Loglia is not just a passageway.
It is an embrace of stone and chestnut wood.
It is the place where people become a community.
It is cool shade in summer and warmth in autumn.
It is the village that goes on recognising itself in its simplest gestures.
Between the light smoke of the roast chestnuts and the voice of the stones, San Vito Romano remembers who it has been.
And perhaps also who it wants to go on being.
Today more than a thousand people crossed the path of our Loglia through a simple post.
It is not just a number.
It is proof that telling the story of a place means bringing it back to life.
