Explanation in English
The poem “I Vatu” takes us on a journey through the countryside of the old days, among uncultivated plots, stones, thistles, brambles, wild flowers and wild fruit. A landscape that looks untidy, yet is full of life, colour and wonder, where every plant and every animal found its own place. In the background the village of San Vito Romano rises above the hills, while a farmer works the land and tends the crops, deeply bound to nature and to the rhythm of the seasons.
From the blossoms of spring to the green of summer, from the warm colours of autumn to the silence of winter, the memory of a simple, genuine world resurfaces, made of work, traditions and knowledge handed down from generation to generation. It is a fond recollection of a countryside that was not just land to be farmed, but part of the identity of a community, of its roots and of its history. A beauty to be rediscovered, cherished and passed on, just as this poem in the San Vito dialect teaches us.
