Piazza Roma is one of the landmarks of everyday life in San Vito Romano. The Villa Comunale, the town’s green heart, looks onto the square, and around it there is a historic bar where you can stop for a coffee: for many locals it is the place to meet, have a chat and start or end the day.
It is also the ideal starting point for exploring the town on foot. From here, following Via Borgo Mario Theodoli, you walk down towards the old town among shops and old palazzi, passing the Church of Saints Sebastian and Roch and, on a panoramic hill, the Church of San Vito. The Macchiarella, the centuries-old chestnut grove in the heart of the town, is also a short distance from the square.
Near Piazza Roma, coming down from the hill of the church of San Vito towards the Via Empolitana, you come across the precious shrine of the Madonna delle Grazie. The Municipality describes it as a 16th-century work, restored in 1719 after earthquake damage, and it is still one of the Marian images most dear to the people of San Vito.
