Pope Leo XIV will return to Genazzano on 7 September 2026, at 6:00 pm, to celebrate Mass at the Sanctuary of the Mother of Good Counsel, on the eve of the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The news, reported by Laura Ferri on montiprenestini.info, closely concerns the whole Monti Prenestini area, which San Vito Romano is also part of.
This is not the Pontiff’s first visit to the sanctuary: Pope Leo XIV had already gone there on 10 May 2025, just two days after his election, a testament to the deep bond that ties him to the Augustinian community. The Augustinians are indeed the custodians of the Sanctuary of Genazzano, one of the most venerated Marian shrines in Lazio, and represent a community to which the Pope has been personally tied since the beginning of his religious life.
For the occasion of the 7 September event, local authorities and the Vatican Gendarmerie, together with the Police Forces, have arranged a reception and security plan designed to ensure both the Pontiff’s protection and the possibility for residents and pilgrims to take part in the Eucharistic celebration safely.
The event is expected to be a moment of great spiritual and symbolic significance for the whole Monti Prenestini area, drawing faithful and pilgrims from across the region and beyond. For those who live in San Vito Romano and the surrounding towns, it is a unique opportunity to attend a celebration presided over directly by the Holy Father just a few kilometres from home.
