After the All Saints’ long weekend, the first weekend of November is quieter but far from empty: the role (roast chestnuts) and the Festa del Cornuto arrive in Rocca Canterano, the Sanvitese plays at home again in San Vito, and the Simbruini woods are at the height of their autumn colours.
Friday: Saint Francis in Subiaco
At 6:30 pm the Teatro Narzio in Subiaco hosts “Francesco, un frate non ancora Santo”, with the Coro Polifonico Città di Subiaco, piano music and readings from the Canticle of the Creatures.
From Friday afternoon to Sunday, anyone wanting a three-day break can join Movimenti nel bosco at Monte Livata: trekking, forest bathing and dance among the beech woods, staying at Villa Attiani (booking required).
Saturday: the Sanvitese and the role
This week’s tip is to stay in town for Sanvitese vs Frosinone Tecchiena, the home match of the 9th round of Serie C1: the kick-off time hasn’t been announced yet, so keep an eye on the team’s Facebook page.
From midday in Rocca Canterano the Sagra della Rola and Festa del Cornuto opens: roast chestnuts, new wine, cecamariti pasta and beans with pork rind, with stands open until 10 pm and the burlesque parade at 6:30 pm.
For those still in the mood for sport, at 7 pm at the PalaFlacco in Palestrina the women’s basketball team plays its first home game: Iobus Jungle Team vs GD Barrili, Serie C.
Sunday: woods and trails
The morning is for those who love walking and running:
- at 9 am the Trail on the Paths of the Saints starts from Subiaco, 13 km between the Sacro Speco and Santa Scolastica, also non-competitive; at 9:30 am there is a free 2 km course for children;
- from 10 am to 3 pm at Monte Livata there is Forest Bathing along trail 672/C, a loop of under 6 km to take slowly (20 euros, booking required).
For lunch you are spoilt for choice. In Rocca Canterano the festival carries on: stands open from 12 noon to 5 pm and the parade at 4:30 pm. In San Cesareo, from 12:30 pm in Piazzale La Villetta, the Pro Loco hosts “Sapori Sancesaresi, Lane e tradizioni”, with lane pasta with salt cod and polenta pizzas: tickets are sold in advance.
If you only have half a day: Sunday lunch at the Festa del Cornuto in Rocca Canterano, twenty-five minutes from home.
Times, prices and contacts for each event are on the events pages: it’s always worth checking before you set off, as programmes can change.
